Working Towards Healthier Moms and Babies
The U.S. maternal mortality rate is worse today than it was 25 years ago, particularly for women of color. The latest CDC data shows Nebraska's infant mortality rate is worsening compared to the rest of the country with Nebraska now in the lower half of states.
For women and families, navigating the healthcare system and finding the resources to support a healthy prenatal and postpartum journey can be daunting. According to recent research, engaging a wider range of resources to connect patients with organizations within their community can help improve health and overall well-being.

Pregnancy Healthcare Coverage
Free temporary pregnancy care is available through a Medicaid program called “Presumptive Eligibility” (PE). PE gives provides short-term coverage while full Medicaid benefits are being considered. Income based coverage, that includes pregnancy care, labor, and delivery, is available for low-income women who don’t qualify for regular Medicaid, as well as coverage through the Healthcare Marketplace. Download this information sheet to understand the pathways to coverage.
Nebraska Medicaid is managed through Heritage Health. Three managed care organizations (MCOs) offer Medicaid healthcare coverage, and the coverage varies. Download a comparison sheet.
